Fred enjoys both studio and plein air painting and is an Artist Member of the Tucson Plein Air Painter's Society (TPAPS), The Palette & Chisel Academy of Chicago and Chicago Plein Air Painters. In addition to his web site, Fred is represented by the Jane Hamilton Fine Art Gallery in Tucson, AZ.

Fred had his first solo show in September, 2005 at Metal Works Gallery in Chicago. In August, 2007, Fred had three of his large Abstract Clouds series paintings in a juried exhibition at the Agora Gallery in Chelsea, NY. He has received Honorable Mention for his plein air paintings Picacho Shadows (Tubac Festival of Arts), and Schroeder House Shadows (Cedarburg, WI, Plein Air Competition). And in August, 2010, his oil painting Capistrano Square received first prize in the national juried exhibition at the Buchanan Center for the Arts (IL). In April, 2012, he was invited to present new paintings, "Improvisations From Nature," in a solo show at The Northern Trust in Tucson. In January, 2013 he exhibited new abstract landscape narrative paintings in a solo show at the Rogoway Gallery, Tubac, AZ. Fred's paintings reflect an avid interest in the impressionistic shapes and shadows of the outdoors:
