Plein Air Painter Fred Wackerle: Nature, Landscapes, Still life, Urban, and Outdoor Paintings

Fred Wackerle, Painter in Oils

Artist Statement

"Fred's paintings vary from contemplative to joyful
with luminous colors that present nature in all its vivid palette"

"Art Spectrum" Magazine May, 2008

I enjoy both plein air and studio painting - more abstract than representational - motivated by light and shadow. My outdoor painting process consists of scouting a good location, at times hiking at great length, selecting dramatic lighting conditions, editing the subject matter for composition, and selecting a color palette that achieves a striking, abstract impression. In addition, I like the challenge and spontaneity of painting ala prima… fast. I sometimes use my small plein air paintings as inspiration for larger works.

My larger impressionistic works (especially cloud abstracts and large triptych paintings) are done in my studio either directly from life observation or memory. I love to paint in oils. And, I accept commissions. My artist web site is: www.wackerle.com.
